This report, based on a study conducted with Long Covid Support, sheds light on the economic toll of Long COVID in the UK. Based on in-depth interviews with people living with Long Covid and with advocacy organisations supporting them, the research shows how Long COVID disrupts working lives, often forcing people into reduced hours, career changes, or leaving work altogether. It also reveals the difficulties many face navigating the benefits system, the additional costs of managing a chronic illness, and the resulting financial strain on households. The study, authored by Tom Crothers, Amelia Zabicka, Oonagh Cousins, Maaret Jokela-Pansini, and Beth Greenhough, was supported by Oxford’s UNIQ+ Summer Internship Programme and published in July 2026.
